| The Foundation’s principal goal was to ensure
that by the Year 2000, all graduates of Jamaican
secondary schools, teachers colleges and community
colleges had access to technology-based education.
The Jamaica 2000 project was formulated and had as
its major goal, the installation of a 15-station
networked computer lab in all secondary and tertiary
public education institutions. The MOEYC fully
endorsed and supported the project, and considerable
financial support was given by the HEART Trust/NTA.
Of the targeted 166 secondary and tertiary
institutions, 141 of them were provided with
computer labs of varying sizes, teacher and lab
administrator training. The remaining 25 schools
benefitted from a CHINA/GOJ cooperative agreement.
The value of the Jamaica 2000 programme was
J$253,000,000.
